Millennials Flooding Your Housing Market? I've Got 3 Tips That Will Help You Close the Sale.

Have you been considering listing your home for sale this year? If yes, you can be sure that there are a lot of millennial homebuyers in the market for a home. These 80 million millennials represent the single demographic of consumers that is growing the quickest. Their earnings continue to rise as they progress through the workforce, and as such, more of them are considering buying a home. Today, I'll share some tips with you about how to make your listing more attractive to this booming demographic.

Go the Minimalist Route
Does your home look like you could be on the verge of being a hoarders paradise? Or even just a lot of decorations, collections and unnecessary junk? The millennial generation tends to favour the minimalist look, considering quality over quantity. They want spaces where they can be social with their peer groups, without intrusive furnishings and accessories. So, if you have space, you should be considering shifting the look of your home to more of an open concept style.

Parse. Purge and put things into storage while you're on the market. You're moving anyway, so this gives you a value-added head start on that inevitable chore.

Become One With Technology
Millennials are a very technologically savvy generation and tend to favour spaces that have been upgraded to meet their technological needs. This doesn't mean that you need to run out and install solar panels on your roof (although it couldn't hurt, is good for the environment and can make you some cash). Other aspects of your home, such as an internet network with a strong whole-home wifi signal, integrated Bluetooth speaker systems, thermostats with internet connectivity, app operated lighting and security cameras that allow them to tap in with control from anywhere could all be useful upgrades to the tech in your home. And, make sure your listing agent has a savvy online presence, and an effective social media marketing strategy to both promote your home and respond to inquiries.

Show Some Local Love
Last but not least, you should be highlighting the positive aspects of your local community as much as you can. Along with the always important local schools, transit and community centres also point out environmentally conscious nature spots and businesses, coffee shops, gyms, yoga studios, creative art or cooking studios, farmers markets; places for group contact and experiences using shared resources are critical to this demographic. Many of them favour walking or biking as opposed to sitting in traffic in a gas-guzzling automobile. Any aspects of the local area that can connect to those interests could prove favourable, including a lovely café or bakery that has yummy treats and delicious coffee-not a bad idea to have some at your open house as well.

Applying some of the tips above will certainly make your home more attractive to millennials who are considering buying a home.
